Invisalign

Clear Aligners are custom-made, inconspicuous, removable alternative to traditional metal braces option to correct the position of teeth for patients who are hesitant to wear traditional wire-and-bracket orthodontic hardware but still want to straighten your teeth, clear aligners could be the best solution. Moreover clear aligners can be removed at any time, allowing you to eat and drink what you want while working towards a better smile. Being able to remove the aligners makes it easy to brush and floss your teeth and do not cause any tissue irritation associated with traditional braces.

Dr. Malhotra's Super Specilaity Dental Centre is certified with the world’s Leading Aligners INVISALIGN®. Invisalign® is one of the simplest, easiest ways to a new smile, it is the best combination of comfort & aesthetics. These are the best option for patients who cannot visit Dr. Malhotra's Super Specilaity Dental Centre TM centres every six weeks. The patient receives several months' aligners in advance, and change them out at regular intervals 10-14 days to help shift your teeth into proper position, treatment can be supervised online with occasional clinical visits for monitoring.

A word of caution – these braces require careful planning and cannot be used for all cases. They work best only in the hands of an expert. The American Dental Association discourages getting clear aligners directly from manufacturers in what's being called Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Orthodontics from companies like Toothsi. Moving teeth is a medical procedure that should be done with the supervision of a licensed professional.

Advantages of Invisalign over traditional braces

More than 9 million people have chosen Invisalign clear aligners for their teeth correction , the advantages of Invisalign are as follows.

Transparent : Nearly Invisible

Invisalign is virtually invisible. This means you can always smile with confidence without other people noticing , as compared to traditional braces where the wires and metal brackets can be seen.

Removable

Invisalign clear aligners are made with SmartTrack® flexible material, making it super easy to remove and put on, unlike braces which are fixed. Now, you can enjoy your favorite food any time you want without the eating restrictions of braces.

Comfortable with Lesser Pain

Patients feel much more comfortable with the smooth clear aligners, which guarantees almost familiar comfortable feeling to your mouth as there are no brackets and wires. Moreover Invisalign offers patented SmartStage® and SmartForce® technologies that ensure gradual and gentle yet effective teeth movement throughout your treatment, as compared to braces which may irritate the surrounding soft tissue and cause pain.

Lesser Doctor Visits

Unlike braces where you have to visit every 3-4 weeks, Invisalign frees up your schedule with visits to the clinic only once every 6-8 weeks if patient desires. Sometimes a bracket or wire may become loose with traditional braces which requires emergency visits, with no brackets or wires, clear aligners do not present such problems.

Predictable Timelines

Invisalign clear aligner treatment allows you to visualize every stage of the treatment, giving you a clearer picture of the treatment duration. Braces can only give you an approximate duration at the beginning of the treatment.

Better Hygiene and Oral Health

Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can still floss and brush your teeth as per normal whereas braces may make it difficult for you to clean in between the metal brackets which can result in plaque accumulation and poor oral hygiene. Clear Aligner can be kept clean by using toothpaste and brush.

Do's and Don’ts For Maintenance of Braces Treatment

Avoid eating hard and/or sticky foods this can bend wires and/or cause braces or bands to debond. Repairing broken orthodontic devices is expensive and the extra time and cost involved is not predictable and is not included in our original fee/time estimates.

Foods To Avoid

  • Avoid crunchy foods: chips popcorn , nachos
  • Avoid sticky foods like : toffees, sticky jaws, caramels, eclairs, chocolates, aampapar, chewing gum nuts, peanuts, (in case you have excessive craving for chocolate consume only plain milk/ dark chocolate without any nuts/ caramels/crispies after heating and softening it in microwave for 5-10 seconds before eating )
  • Avoid hard foods like Hard bread crusts or thick or crispy pizza crusts , tandoori rotis, toasted bread.
  • Take meat off bones with utensils, not with your teeth
  • Do not bite –
    • Hard bread crusts or thick or crispy pizza crusts , tandoori rotis, toasted bread.
    • (take meat off bones with utensils, not with your teeth)
    • large hard raw vegetables and fruits (cut carrots, apples up into small pieces first!)
    • lce, ice cubes, or hard frozen things -
    • on bones ( eat boneless meat )
    • Directly into crunchy whole fruits like apples, pears (cut them into small pieces)
    • Directly into corn on the cob - remove the corn from the cob first!
    • Avoid guava fruit as seeds are hard and can cause deboning of brackets and delay treatment.
    • Do not chew your nails, on the ends of pencils or pens
  • Hygiene: Teeth and braces would need to be cleaned every day in order to keep teeth and gums healthy during and after orthodontic treatment. Hence, it's more important than ever to brush and floss regularly when you have braces. Patients who do not keep their teeth clean may require more frequent visits to the dentist for a professional cleaning and may need to see a periodontist.
  • In case of soreness and tissue irritation : dissolve one teaspoonful of salt in a glass of warm water, and rinse your mouth vigorously, try rinsing several times a day. After 'appliance adjustmants/ wire change' a patient's teeth will usually be sore and tender for a week, especially to biting pressure. Please take prescribed painkiller tablet if you need to , and keep taking it as prescribed for a couple days.
  • Follow Instructions: The teeth and jaws can only move towards their corrected positions if the patient is compliant and consistently wears the rubber bands, headgear or other appliances as prescribed.
  • Sports : If you play sports, it's important that you consult us for special precautions. In case of any accident involving the face, check your mouth and the appliances immediately. If teeth are loosened or the appliances damaged, phone at once for an appointment. In the meantime, treat your discomfort as you would treat any general soreness.
  • Loose wire or band : If you do break something please call our office right away. Decay can start under loose orthodontic devices, or teeth can move in the wrong direction if things are bent or broken, complicating and/or lengthening your orthodontic treatment. If a wire or band comes loose and if the wire protrudes and is irritating the surrounding tissue, use a blunt instrument like back of spoon and carefully, gently push the irritating wire under the archwire. Simply get it out of the way. If irritation to the lips or mouth continues, place wax or wet cotton on the wire to reduce the annoyance. Call our office as soon as possible for an appointment to check and repair the appliances. If any component (like bracket, band) comes off, please save it and bring it with you to our office.
  • Emergency care : as a general rule, an emergency appointment may be made when there is severe pain, a loose band, a broken wire or something sticking out that you can't take care of. Please inform the receptionist regarding the breakage and they wil prioritize your appointment at the earliest.
