Orthodontic treatment is a highly technique sensitive treatment, where the treating Orthodontic specialists clinical skills, expertise and experience are vital at all stages right from diagnosis, treatment planning to treatment execution and retention of treatment results. A good orthodontist understands the dynamic nature of orthodontic treatment, identifies the limitations and challenges in the treatment plan as per patients clinical outcome at every step of treatment and customizes the treatment to attain the desired results. Because Orthodontic treatment has a has a far reaching lifelong effect on patients aesthetics, function, speech and confidence, it is very vital that we choose our the Orthodontist wisely.
Today the most common complaint that patients / parents present is missed appointments due to non avaialability of treating orthodontic specialist in case any emergency arises as most clinics have visiting specialists who are available only once or twice a month at specific hours in a particular clinic. In case you or your child is unable to visit at that specified hour then you need to wait for the visiting specialist 's next scheduled visit which may be after a month. Moreover as the visiting orthodontist has to accommodate all scheduled patients in his planned visit, the limited availability of time per patient may affect the overall efficiency of treatment outcomes.
Orthodontic treatment is a long treatment which can extend upto 1.5 to 3 years, it is important that the complete planning and execution of your treatment be under the supervision of an expert Orthodontic specialist and as per the discussed treatment plan. Another common complaint is the frequent changes in treatment plan/style of working due to change of visiting orthodontic specialists mid treatment which can reflect in poor treatment outcomes. There is a famous saying "Too many cooks spoil the broth" hence it is important that complete planning and execution be done by the same treating orthodontist right from planning to the finish of treatment to achieve the desired results as per the treatment plan.
