Porcelain Lumineers

Lumineers or 'No prep Veneers' are “ultra thin” laminates, a brand of veneers that take less preparation and advanced dental work than traditional veneers. They’re often called “no prep” veneers. This alternative approach to cosmetic dentistry is a pioneering treatment that allows corrections to be made in a smile without any discomfort. Lumineers may be created using a patented ceramic material known as Cerinate

Porcelain veneers are thicker so they require removal of some tooth material to shape tooth enamel prior to veneers being fitted, in order to make room for the veneer so its surface is level with the surfaces of the neighbouring teeth. Hence the process is irreversible. It is possible to adjust or replace the veneers with new ones but not to return to the original, natural tooth By contrast, since Lumineers are super thin, they require minimal or no removal of tooth material. Since minimal/no tooth material is removed, Lumineers are “reversible”. That means if at a later date the patient desires Lumineer can be removed.

The Direct Composite Veneer System adds an interesting dimension to these treatment options and gives dentists and patients a faster and more cost-effective treatment option over lab fabricated porcelain veneers . With this new "' SAME DAY VENEERS" easy-to-use and efficient treatment option patients can be given a naturally aesthetic smile in just a single session.

Advantages

  • Semipermanent and Reversable: as they require minimum or no removal of tooth material, hence lumineers can be removed with almost no or minimal damage to your teeth and we can return to the natural tooth structure after removal, hence the process is reversable.
  • More natural and aesthetic appearance: since lumineers are a lot thinner and more translucent than the porcelain used in regular porcelain veneers, so they tend to reflect light more like your natural teeth, giving it a more esthetic appearance.
  • Painless: no discomfort and senstivity. Unlike traditional porcelain veneers which require anaesthetic injections for enamel reduction and shaping that may cause discomfort and sensitivity during tooth preparation, lumineers require minimum or no removal of tooth material, there is no need for anaesthetics injections.
  • No Temporization: No temporarary composite veneers required to protect teeth and avoid sensitivity in the transition period while you’re waiting for your custom lumineers to be fabricated at the lab.
  • Less Staining: More resistant to staining than Cons

Cons

  • Lumineers are thinner and a bit more translucent than traditional porcelain veneers. For this reason they are not a good option for people with severely discoloured teeth
  • More susceptible to fracture /chip than thicker porcelain veneers
  • Similar to veneers, Lumineers can make it harder to clean around your gum line. This can increase your risk for gum disease.
